P7 Activities Week Starting 11th May

We hope you’ve had a happy and healthy week. Here’s some more work to make you even happier!

Motivational Monday

Since it’s Monday, don’t forget to get in touch with another classmate and give them an encouraging message to see them through their week ahead!

Find a summary grid of the week’s work below:

Literacy

This week’s grammar topic is apostrophes – something we can always use a little extra practice on, particularly for Plural Possession! Look back at this PowerPoint which explains the uses of apostrophes:

Here are some activities to practise using apostrophes for plural possession:

Use this link to explore possessive apostrophes on BBC BiteSize:

You should now be on the “writing” phase of your Beyond the Door fantasy narrative. I can’t wait to read some! Make sure you try out some ICT extension activities.

Keep up the leisure reading, and for comprehension continue looking at NewsDesk articles that interest you, along with their discussion questions. Search for the article “Co Down: Stranger than Antarctica” this week which I thought you might like.

The phonetic spelling sound for this week is the “m” sound (m/mm/mb/lm/mn)

Numeracy

This week, we are looking at coordinates. (A set of coordinates in their brackets are also referred to as an “ordered pair” during some of these activities.)

We should be very familiar with reading and plotting coordinates in one quadrant:

But let’s remind ourselves how it’s a little more challenging when involving 4 quadrants, and therefore some negative numbers! Watch the explanation video on YouTube, and have a look at the PowerPoint:

Explore the activities below to practise 4-quadrant coordinates!

And if you fancy a coordinate sing-song, which I’m sure you do…

This week’s Maths Challenge is a Monster Maths which you’ll all be familiar with. Try out the easier or more difficult version – or both!

World Around Us

This week we are focusing on Science and Geography:

Flight – No pressure, but we’re looking at Air Pressure this week in Science:

Weather & Climate – Have a look at our next Geography lesson on how we measure the weather. Have you seen any of these weather instruments around school?

PDMU

In our “Fit for the Future” topic this week, have a look at the third session on Drugs:
