December 2012

As soon as the calendar turns to December, the children have one thing on their minds...  Of course, we have to balance the preparation for the season with keeping school calm - quite a challenge, especially if the weather's bad!

However, we're nearly there now and we have had a lovely series of Christmas events, beginning with the PTA Christmas Fair.  The Carol Service saw the Andrews Hall packed to the rafters and the two performances of The Little Angel were equally well supported.

Our charity collections once more highlighted our parents' generosity, with £380 being raised for the Prader Willi Association (NI) and £234 for the Comber Coal Fund.

And for the grand finale...

Before all these wonderful performances, our choir had entertained a packed house at the Theatre at the Mill, Carnmoney.  The Music Box, starring Peter Corry - and us, of course - proved to be an exciting experience for the children.  They also saw all the hard work that went into preparing for such a concert - as if they didn't know a little of that already!  Thank you to all the parents and friends who came along to support us.  They were in good company, as Dame Mary Peters and Gerry Kelly were also there!

Earlier in December, our Primary 1 pupils made a very significant contribution to Comber.  They rebuilt it!  Using everyday materials and their well-honed building skills, they constructed a 3D model of our town - Rollo Gillespie, the Andrews Hall and all...

Finally, for this month, we have a very exciting event to report on.  Mr Sandford, our Vice Principal, after all his brilliant work in science projects last year, was offered the chance to organise a Chemistry at Work day for our Primary 6 pupils.  He invited the P6 children from Comber PS and St Mary's - all in all, a total of 100 pupils!  They had a tremendous day, learning about 'real-life' chemistry from a number of special guests and workshops.  Thanks to everyone, the day did literally go off with a bang!

Happy Christmas to everyone!  Thank you for your interest in our website; try and remember to check the year group News Sheets, too - especially P3 this month, for extra Nativity Play pictures.
