November 2012

We have been experiencing a few technical hitches with our Calendar page, so here is a list of important dates for the weeks ahead.  Please feel free to circulate these among your friends...

Open Mornings - Thursday & Friday, 6 & 7 December 2012

On each of the mornings we will provide information about the application procedure, provide you with forms and show you around the school.  To get the most out of your visit, we would encourage you to come either at 9.30am or 11.15am.

Open Evening - Wednesday 9 January 2013

This evening will showcase our school to both prospective and current parents.  It's been a great success in the past, so do try to come along.  The school will be open from 7.00pm until 8.30pm.

P4-7 Carol Service - Wednesday 12 December 2012, 7.00pm, the Andrews Hall

This is the service that really starts our Christmas celebrations.  Please come along and share in what we guarantee will be an entertaining evening.

P1-3 Nativity Play - the Little Angel - Tuesday & Wednesday, 18 & 19 December 2012 - 9.45am, the Andrews Hall

These performances are always very special and everyone is welcome to come along and share in our youngest pupils' celebration of the Christmas message.

The second half term got off to a very noisy start, rather as the first half-term ended.  The bangs weren't from fireworks this time, though, they were from hundreds of children taking part in a special percussion workshop run by Jeff Rich.  Now, our children knew many of the songs that Jeff played the drums on, but not so many knew the name of the band he was in.  Do you?

The answer is Status Quo!  You can imagine, then, that Jeff is a pretty impressive drummer and the children enjoyed listening to a truly brilliant musician.  However, it wasn't all about Jeff, as he genuinely believes in getting everyone involved - teachers and children!  The Andrews Hall reverberated to the beat, that's for sure!

Our school football team's season finally got started, after a frustrating period when the weather put paid to the beginning of the league programme.  The team began their campaign in healthy form and are looking good for the season ahead.  Especially pleasing for the school, is the fact that the team contains many players from P5 and P6, so the future looks bright!  For a full set of results, click here.

And finally, for this month, fantastic news - our outdoor play area is built and open for play!  The area looks fantastic and the P1 and P2 children have been putting it to the test every day.  We are indebted to the Conservation Volunteers for building the equipment and for their continuing support of our outdoor initiatives.  You may remember that they built our Titanic Raised Vegetable Bed.  And we have more plans for the school grounds.  Of course, the people who really built this are the parents and friends of the school, as the PTA funded the resource.  Thanks to everyone!  For a summary of PTA event and fund-raising news, click here.

Don't forget to check out the year group News Sheets to keep up-to-date with your children's own class activities and news.  There's plenty going on as we count down the sleeps until Christmas!
