Happy New Year to you all!

Christmas is just past, so it must be time to start thinking about next year's holidays...  Click here to see details of the term dates for the 2010-11 school year.

Continuing with our aim to increase after-school provision, we decided to look at the creative arts this term and invited the Talent Tribe into school.  This is an industry-led organisation that runs courses in performance skills.  Some of its pupils even find employment, as the tutors are all industry professionals.  We know lots of children have the talent; what they don't always get is the opportunity, so let's hope we find a few at Andrews!  What we know already, is that all the children had lots of fun at their 'taster session' and many are prepared to attend an after-school course.  It's 'watch this space' time again...

Following this creative arts theme, we were delighted to have our Senior Choir invited to 2nd Comber Presbyterian Church this month, to perform in a concert hosted by Comber Silver Band.  The children were a real credit to themselves and the school - and to the talents of our music coordinator, Mrs Anne Knaggs.  Well done to you all!

Many of you already know that Andrews has an excellent reputation for sport and our teams enjoy regular success in lots of events and competitions.  Even more importantly, of course, the children have many opportunities to take part and represent the school.

Our football team had a superb season last year and to give the team an added boost for this season, our very generous kit sponsor, Mr John Boyce, provided us with a lovely new kit.  You will be able to see a picture very soon - we're not keeping it a secret...

Here it is!

Last year, we were visited by a Belfast Giant - a real, living and breathing one, as opposed to a mythical character...  And another one came to see us this year!  In fact, on Friday 29 January, 50 of us, along with 5 teachers, went to see lots and lots of Belfast Giants at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.  Ice hockey giants, of course...  And they won!

Let's hope we have the opportuntiy of bringing the team more luck next year!

And finally...

Our PTA has been working hard to plan their next series of events, so please look out for more information in your children's notebags.  This month, we've been recycling mobile phones, we're about to enjoy two movie nights, we're planning a parents' social event and we've just confirmed 4 June 2010 for our Summer Ball at  La Mon.  Now, we all want to look our best at the ball...  So why not get into some training and help us in the Belfast Marathon - as a relay team member, a walker, a fun- runner, or even as an elite, whole distance competitor?

Come on, you know you can do it!
